What submitting music to Spotify playlists means

Submitting to Spotify playlists is one of the legitimate paths for a new song to find listeners. There are three distinct routes — keep them separate:

1) Official Spotify editorial — through Spotify for Artists you can pitch an unreleased song to Spotify's editorial team. It is the official route and the only one that can place you in Spotify-owned editorial playlists. Spotify recommends submitting at least 7 days before release and makes clear that pitching does not guarantee inclusion.

2) Algorithmic playlists — Discover Weekly, Release Radar, and similar are generated by the algorithm from listener behaviour. They cannot be "requested". They improve when your track earns real saves, completes, and plays.

3) Independent playlists and editorial directories — curators like Playlist Atlas. Here you can request direct editorial review for specific lists. What we offer: an honest read on fit. What we do NOT offer: guarantees, positions for cash, or algorithm manipulation.

What you should never do

Some services promise guaranteed streams, traffic-driving playlist placement, 24-hour follower growth, or smart bots. Spotify warns explicitly against these services: using them can result in playlist removal, uncounted streams, unpaid royalties, or full track takedown.

  • Pay for guaranteed playlist placement (payola).
  • Buy streams, plays, monthly listeners, or followers.
  • Use bots or stream farms.
  • Manipulate metadata to trick the algorithm (fake genres, copied titles).
  • Engage in mass swaps ("follow-for-follow") with inactive accounts.
  • Mass-submit to hundreds of lists without reading their editorial line.

How to prepare a strong pitch

A strong pitch is 80–150 words and answers five specific questions:

  • Who you are: artist name, city, label if any, one line of context.
  • Which song: direct Spotify link, release date, precise genre, approximate BPM.
  • Which playlist you're aiming at: one specific list from the directory, not "any that fits".
  • Why it fits that list: listening moment, tone, references inside the actual playlist.
  • What comes next: social links, canvas, press or relevant metrics (optional).

Checklist before submitting

  • Spotify for Artists profile claimed and verified.
  • Square cover art at least 3000×3000 px with no blurry text or watermarks.
  • Bio updated with country, genre, and project moment.
  • Artist photo and vertical canvas for main tracks.
  • Track published or scheduled with a date — pitches for non-existing songs aren't reviewed.
  • A single target playlist chosen from the directory.
  • Concrete fit reason (not "I think you'll like it").
  • No swap promises, follow-for-follow, or payola services.

Do you guarantee inclusion if I submit my song?

No. Review is free and editorial. If the song fits the specific list, it gets considered. If it doesn't, it doesn't. Any service that guarantees inclusion for money breaks Spotify's rules.

Is there a fee to submit?

No. Review is free. We do not sell positions, we do not charge for reading pitches, and we do not engage in payola.

How long does review take?

No fixed deadline. Submissions with clear fit are reviewed faster. We do not reply to every submission; those that pass the editorial filter can take 1–4 weeks depending on volume.

Can I submit an unreleased song?

Yes, as long as the release date is set and the track is scheduled in Spotify for Artists. For Spotify-owned editorial inclusion, use Spotify for Artists at least 7 days before release.

Can I submit multiple songs to multiple lists at once?

Better one pitch per song per target playlist. A bulk "any list that fits" submission gets discarded automatically — it shows the directory editorial line wasn't read.

What if my music doesn't fit?

It doesn't enter that specific list, but it might fit another. The taxonomy covers nine genres and eleven moments: room exists for reggaeton, lo-fi, phonk, indie, electronic, bachata, and more. Better one pitch to the right list than many to the wrong ones.
