Summer Dinner

Summer Dinner is the directory's pillar list for eating outdoors. Indie folk, soul, sensual bachata, and chill Latin pop — moderate vocals that do not fight the conversation, low-medium BPM, and duration built for dinner, sobremesa, and the closing drink without switching lists.

Work Without Stress

Work Without Stress is built for long workdays when you need to lower tension. Comfortable lo-fi, calm melodic house, and soft ambient with occasional vocals. Low BPM, flat dynamics, 3+ hour duration. Built for high-email days, light multitasking, or administrative work.

Sunday Brunch

Sunday Brunch is the pillar list for long mornings with late breakfast. Indie folk, modern soul, chill pop, and a few singable classics — vocals you can hum, medium BPM (90-115), and duration built for 90-120 minutes at the table with coffee, eggs, a book, and sobremesa.

Indie For Studying

Indie For Studying

Indie For Studying is the alternative when lo-fi tires. Instrumental indie, dream pop with soft background vocals, restrained post-rock, and vocal-free bedroom pop. 90-115 BPM, controlled dynamics, duration built for 90-120 minutes of comfortable focus. Richer structure than pure lo-fi.

Weekend Cooking

Weekend Cooking

Weekend Cooking is built for Saturday-night or Sunday family kitchens. It blends chill indie with lead vocals, current Latin pop, and modern soul. 95-120 BPM, cheerful vocals, 90-120 minute duration. More energy than Sunday Brunch, less than House Cleaning.

About this genre on Spotify

What indie is and which sub-scenes we cover

Indie is a broad label. Directory lists focus on four sub-scenes with clear identity: acoustic indie folk (Phoebe Bridgers, Bon Iver), bedroom pop (Clairo, Beabadoobee), dream pop (Beach House, Slowdive), and contemporary Spanish/Latin indie (Carolina Durante, Núria Graham). We cover what has careful production and rich vocals — no unmixed lo-fi demos.

How Playlist Atlas picks indie lists

Indie on Spotify is full of catch-all lists blending hard indie rock with acoustic folk until coherence dissolves. Ours are tagged by use case: indie to study (instrumental or low-vocal), chill indie for brunch or terrace (moderate vocals), and energetic indie only for specific lists. The rule is coherent tone.

When to use indie and when not

It works perfectly for brunch, studying (carefully picking instrumental or non-lead-vocal indie), long highway drives, and afternoon reading. It works worse for the gym (low BPM) or party (cannot sustain energy). For deep focus, lo-fi is still better.

Pairs well with

Pair with study or working using instrumental indie lists, and with dinner or brunch for a relaxed setting.

Frequently asked questions

Is indie to study the same as chill indie?

Almost. The difference is vocal presence. Study indie leans instrumental or very low vocals; chill indie allows lead vocals if rhythm is relaxed.

What BPM is indie?

Very variable. Acoustic indie folk 80-110 BPM. Chill indie pop 100-120. Energetic indie rock 120-140.

Does indie work for the car?

Yes, for long highway drives. For urban traffic it tires from low energy. Better to mix with [[genero:pop-latino|Latin pop]] or reggaeton if the plan is city driving.

Is there a difference between Spanish indie and international indie?

Yes. Current Spanish indie leans indie pop with clean guitars (Carolina Durante, Cariño). International indie covers dream pop, bedroom, and folk with different production.
